What is the Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project in Erie County?
It is a monumental endeavor by a coalition of seven animal welfare groups working to guarantee a home for every healthy and treatable dog and cat in Erie County. By September of 2014, Erie County will be a community with ZERO healthy and treatable deaths. The Project partners include: Black Dog, Second Chance; Buffalo Humane; the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter; HEART; Second Chance Sheltering Network; the SPCA Serving Erie County; and Ten Lives Club. The SPCA Serving Erie County is the lead agency in the Project, offering guidance and opportunities for growth. Operation Pets, a low cost spay/neuter clinic for low income residents, is also a partner.
Thanks to a generous grant from Maddie’s Fund® of $5 million over the course of five years, the Project partners are determined to find a loving home for every healthy and treatable animal that enters our doors. This translates into the adoption of over 10,000 animals each year, including 2,500 dogs and cats that might have been euthanized in the past. Funding is conditional upon meeting pre-determined adoption goals.
Because of our ambitious goals, we need the community's support more than ever! With the community serving as the eighth partner in the Project, we will be able to provide veterinary treatment for thousands of additional dogs and cats.
